Introduction to Duerden Genealogy
Firstly, I must state that I am
not a professional genealogist. Genealogy is just one of my hobbies that I
started to take seriously when I retired in 1998 (early, by the way). I
started in the usual way by extracting information from my parents, aunts
and uncles.
Then, after reading a few books on
genealogy, I extended my search through Libraries and Record Offices, trying
to find the missing links.
My father, Alexander, was born in Nelson,
Lancashire, so I then wrote to all the Nelson Duerdens listed in "The Burke's Peerage World Book of Duerdens".
I had quite a good response and,
as numerous people had sent me information on their families, I felt I had
to put all this data to good use.
So, after putting it all into a
database, I tried to help the people who contacted me with their trees.
I now believe that if I could contact more Duerdens
willing to share their family trees with me I could set up an
inter-active site, so that we can all help each other.
